Guardian and Irish Times newspapers give new orchestral CD four stars ****

Ian's latest disc, Winter finding - a collection of his orchestral music from the last 11 years released on the RTÉ label - has just been reviewed by three major newpapers. Giving the disc four stars, The Guardian's Andrew Clements says the music is "strikingly well-performed" and describes the composer as working with a "vivid instrumental palette". He singles out the 2nd violin concerto for particular praise: "...the irrepressibly lyrical solo line unravels like a bundle of threads as it weaves through the orchestral textures; the idea is wonderfully sustained and generates music of great beauty."

The Irish Times' Michael Dervan says that Man-o'-War "...unleashes orchestral violence with the abandon of Edgard Varèse" and praises the "strong performances from the NSO".

Meanwhile The Independent's Anna Picard leads off her review from September 12th by saying that "RTE's handsomely played portrait-disc demonstrates Wilson's skills as dramatist and colourist".
